Laois Fianna Fáil TD says Government has an €8.5 billion extar in the kitty for 2027

Budget 2027 will reward workers, support public services and see infrastructure investment, according to Laois Fianna Fáil TD, Seán Fleming who has welcomed the recent publication of the Government’s Summer Economic Statement 2026.

He said the Statement provides for a Budget package of €8.5 billion that includes €7 billion in extra public expenditure and €1.5 billion in tax measures.

Speaking on the announcement, Deputy Fleming said it sets the scene for spending that will include a spin-off for Laois workers and those around the country.

“We have record levels of employment, strong consumer spending and continued public and private investment. That strong economic performance gives us the opportunity to continue investing in our country while also recognising the contribution made by workers.

“While the Summer Economic Statement sets the fiscal framework for Budget 2027, it is clear that the Government’s priority is to reward people for their hard work.

“Budget 2027 will deliver a tax package that supports workers while continuing to address cost of living pressures. At the same time, it will provide the investment needed to strengthen public services and accelerate delivery of the infrastructure our growing economy requires.

“People are working hard, paying their taxes and making a significant contribution to our economy. They deserve to see that reflected through lower tax burdens, better public services and continued investment in the infrastructure our communities rely on,” said the Castletown -based TD.

The Tánaiste and Minister for Finance, Simon Harris, and the Minister for Public Expenditure, Infrastructure, Public Service Reform and Digitalisation, Jack Chambers published the government’s Summer Economic Statement 2026 following agreement at Cabinet.

The Government says that for 2027, the overall government expenditure ceiling is €125.5 billion. This is made up of €105.2 billion of current spending and €20.3 of capital spending.
