Diversion in place for Mountmellick road to Portarlington, Emo and M7 motorway

A busy regional road in a Laois town leading to schools and Dublin has closed for a week due to essential water works.

Laois County Council has closed the R422 road on Harbour Street in Mountmellick.

The road closure is to allow for connection of the new Grange Hall housing estate to the public sewer connection.

It will be closed for 24 hours a day while the work is underway, from 9am on Monday, March 24 to 6pm on Friday, March 28.

It is also a busy route for young families driving to schools in Mountmellick and The Rock. placeholder image

Grange hall is a private development which has 54 new houses under construction, expected to be completed in the coming months. An application by the developer to build two further houses at the entrance was recently refused planning permission.

Diversions are signposted via Emo and Portlaoise. Local access diversions are also in place for residents on Harbour Street.
