Call to identify strange triangle in Portlaoise carpark and stop drivers parking on it

Laois County Council disability parking space at Market Square getting blocked by triangle parkers
A strange triangle shaped space in a Portlaoise public carpark is not for parking, but is being used as such, causing difficulty to users of a disabilIty parking space, according to councillors.
Cllr Barry Walsh has asked Laois County Council to identify the triangular space painted in the carpark outside the Square Bar, as a non-parking spot.
He also wants a review of the signage and general layout of the busy area.
He tabled a motion to the January meeting of Portlaoise MunIcipal District, with other councillors also describing the problem.
"This area in general has several different uses, including deliveries, pubs and people trying to park in general.
"A number of different groups approached me, it can be quite chaotic at times. I propose that all stakeholders meet and try to come up with a solution," Cllr Walsh said.
Cllr Thomasina Connell seconded.
"This triangle is adjacent to a disability parking bay. If a car goes in there is not enough room for the disability bay," she explained.
Cllr Catherine Fitzgerald supports, describing it as "a very small area for a lot of traffic".
Cllr Caroline Dwane Stanley said she would be "slow to remove a parking space in town".
"They turned the area behind Hinds Square into private parking and the square is like a ghost area now with shops closed," she said.
"I am not proposing to remove a space, just looking for a solution for everyone involved," Cllr Walsh added.
In reply, the area engineer agreed to visit and review the location.
