Clampdown on illegal parking in Laois town

Gardai will begin clamping down on illegal parking at Station Road in Portarlington. 

It follows a request from Bobby Delaney at a recent Joint Policing Committee meeting. 

Mr Delaney said he was asked to raise the issue of illegal parking by concerned residents.

“On a daily basis it is outside the presentation girls school. The issue is persistent and there is a safety issue for children who have to cycle on that road if cars are blocking that cycle lane,” said Mr Delaney. 

“We are aware of that situation and we are working with the people there at the moment to try and encourage people to desist from the illegal parking," said Chief Superintendent John Scanlan.

"We’ll offer advice first and then if advice doesn’t work we’ll be left with no alternative,” he said.
