Clonaslee St Manman's and Rathdowney-Errill's Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship quarter-final has been abandoned following a serious leg injury to Rathdowney-Errill's Jordie Kavanagh.

The game had 21 minutes on the clock when Kavanagh suffered the injury with his side leading four points to three. Paddy Hyland had opened the scoring for Clonaslee St Manmans's from a placed ball before Rathdowney-Errill fired over three points without reply. David Poynton, James Keegan and Paddy Hassett all raised white flags for Barry Bowe's men.

Referee Padraig Dunne abandoned the game after it became known that an ambulance would be required.

In terms of the game itself, Cian Conroy assisted the next Clonaslee score as Niall Corbet drilled the ball over the bar from the 21-yard line. Jordie Kavanagh and Shay Foynes traded points before the injury occurred to the Rathdowney-Errill corner-forward. As soon as the injury happened, there was serious concern about the player as both sets of players called for the immediate attention of the physio and manager.

The semi-final was due to take place on Tuesday evening with Portlaoise waiting but it's now expected that there will be a delay in the championship as a result of tonight's accident.
