Cash has been granted to return more collections of old unwanted mattresses and furniture this summer.

Laois County Council has been granted €82,744 for anti-dumping initiatives for 2023, including the collection days.

The council has confirmed that it plans to hold two collection days for bulky waste, one in Portlaoise and one in Portarlington.

Director of Services Simon Walton confirmed their plan.

"There is €85,000 approved for waste action. We are engaging with the contractors at the moment. For now the intention is to confirm the additional €85,000 to the council to implement over the year. I will confirm details.

"It will be similar to the mattress and couch amnesty," Mr Walton said.
