The man appeared before a sitting of Portlaoise District Court

A man brought €60 compensation to court for stealing frozen chicken from a butcher’s shop in Portlaoise.

Jiri Cervenak (34) of 397 Market Mews, Maryborough Village, Portlaoise, stole the frozen chicken pieces from Feighrey’s butchers in the Kyle Shopping Centre on October 14, 2025.

Solicitor Brian Duffy explained to Judge Tom MacSharry that the case had been adjourned in order for the defendant to produce €60 which he now had in court.

Judge MacSharry granted legal aid and adjourned the case back to Portlaoise District Court on December 14 for finalisation.

Garda Sergeant JJ Kirby said he would make sure the money is delivered to Feighrey’s Butchers.
