Condolences pour in for local pharmacist in Laois who passed away peacefully

Tributes have been paid to a local businessman and chemist, Liam Adams, who passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family. 

Mr Adams of Glenlahan, Stradbally Road, Portlaoise, and late of Adams Pharmacy, Portlaoise and Tullamore passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 14. 

Remembered fondly by so many as a "thorough gentleman", condolences paid to Mr Adams poured in by those who knew him and communities far and wide in Co Laois, with many noting how he was "such a lovely man" and "a good person, wonderful dad".

One person wrote: "I have being going into Adams Pharmacy for over 30 years. Liam was always so helpful and a true gentleman! Highly regarded. May he rest in peace." 

Another said: "Deepest sympathies to the family on the very sad loss of Liam. Great guy, and lovely golfer. He will be sadly missed.. may he rest in peace", while someone else noted his love for golf, saying: "Sincere sympathy to all the family on the sad passing of Liam. He was an absolute gentleman. I will never forget how good he was to me during my junior golf days. May he rest in peace."

One individual even shared an anecdote of their time working for the Adams family in the local pharmacy: "My first ever job was working for Billy Adams in 1989 and I continued working for Liam in Adams Chemist, Tullamore for 7 more wonderful years.

"Liam was an absolute gentleman as was Mr Adams. Liam was instrumental in instilling in me the work ethic I carry with me today. What I loved about Liam was that he was understated. Everyone loved his gentle demeanour. He really raised the bar for my future employers," they recalled. 

Mr Adams will be reposing at his family residence (R32YWOC) from 2pm on Tuesday, April 16, with rosary at 8pm.

Removal on Wednesday to SS Peter and Paul’s Church, Portlaoise, to arrive for 12 noon requiem mass. Interment will follow in SS Peter and Paul’s Cemetery, Portlaoise.
