'Constantly accidents' at junction near Portlaoise - Cllr Willie Aird

Laois County Council to consider road safety works in 2025
A rural road junction near Portlaoise is to be considered for funding to get safety improvement works, following a motion tabled by Laois Fine Gael Cllr Willie Aird.
He says "the stop sign is not used and there are constantly accidents" blaming sat nav for sending drivers on the road.
The sharply angled junction is in the Derrygarran and Eyne area, with Cllr Aird requesting repainting and new signage, in his motion to the September meeting of the Portlaoise Municipal District.
"You carried out work before but the markings are all gone. Local people know this junction, strangers don't. Can we get rumble strips and road markings to indicate you are coming to a junction, people are actually braking on the through road because they now expect people to come straight through," he said.
In reply, Laois County Council area engineer Wes Wilkinson said it will be re-examined for further works and they will submit an application for funding for road safety improvement works in 2025.
