Construction work on new Laois fire station 'imminent'

Electric Picnic spurred on need for bigger station
Construction of a new Laois fire station serving major events including Electric Picnic is about to begin.
Building work is “imminent” on Stradbally fire station according to Laois County Council Director of Services Simon Walton, speaking at the recent council meeting.
Cllr Paschal McEvoy who lives in the town was happy to see work about to start.
“We are at the stage of pressing the button to deliver the money, we are almost over the line,” he said.
Rathdowney is next on the list for a new station.
“The quicker Stradbally fire station is done the better, Rathdowney will come after it,” Cllr John King from Rathdowney noted.
The Stradbally crew moved out of their old station last January, to a building on the site of the new larger station. Read more about the plans here.
It will be funded by the National Directorate for Fire and Emergency Management (NDFEM). It is 23 years since Laois County Council first identified the new site for it.
