Laois County Council was praised for the work it has carried out on stone bridges in the county.

Cllr Padraig Fleming complimented the council after he placed a motion asking: “That Laois County Council carry out repairs to the wall at Castletown Bridge, Ballylinan, at the Coolanowle side of Ballylinan.”

Senior Executive Engineer Philip McVeigh: “Laois County Council has inspected this bridge and we will arrange to carry out repair works early in the New Year.”

Cllr Fleming told the meeting of Portarlington Graiguecullen Municipal District that it was a “beautiful bridge” but there is a crack in it.

“I commend you for the fantastic work on some of the lovely bridges that you have repaired in the last few months. Obviously your stone mason is top class,” he remarked.
