Crashed into two cars during test drive

A woman who crashed into two parked cars while trying out a car she bought was charged with hit and run.
Dorothy Umukoro, 39, with an address at the Montague Hotel, Cappakeel, Emo admitted dangerous driving, hit and run and having no insurance or licence at her address on April 8, 2023.
Garda Sergeant JJ Kirby said gardai were called to the hotel following a report that a car had crashed into two parked cars. Responding gardai viewed CCTV and identified the defendant, he said.
She was arrested and admitted the offence, he said. The woman has no previous convictions, he added.
Solicitor Philip Meagher said his client has lived in Ireland for eight years and works part time as a security officer. He said one of her acquaintances at the refugee centre wanted to sell a car and she “foolishly agreed” to buy it.
Mr Meagher said she was “driving it around the car park to test it” when the collision occurred.
“She is extremely embarrassed and ashamed of what happened,” said Mr Meagher.
Judge Andrew Cody fined the woman a total of €700 and disqualified her from driving for two years. He granted legal aid in the case.
