A digital speed sign is due to be relocated in Portarlington.

Sinn Fein Councillor Aidan Mullins asked for the move in a motion at the latest meeting of the Portarlington Graiguecullen Municipal District.

He asked “That Laois County Council move the digital speed sign on the Portlaoise Road in Portarlington further out from its current location.”

In response, Senior Executive Engineer, Philip McVeigh said "Laois County Council has inspected this speed radar and identified a suitable location to relocate it.  This will be arranged with Killaree Lighting."

Cllr Mullins asked on what side of the bridge the sign would be relocated to.

Mr McVeigh said it would be located on the Portlaoise side of the bridge.

Fine Gael Cllr PJ Kelly seconded the motion and said there is a “good sweep”coming into the town at the location where traffic builds up speed. He believed the new location of the speed sign would be ideal.
