Fianna Fáil Cllr says speed has increased on road at Abbeyleix Golf Club

Drivers are speeding up past the golf club in Abbeyleix leaving the town, a local Fianna Fáil councillor has said.

Cllr John Joe Fennelly has asked Laois County Council to paint a reminder of the 50km/h speed limit on the Regional road past Abbeyleix Golf Club heading to Ballyroan, between the golf club and the Green Road junction.

"When you go over the last ramp heading for Ballyroan, speed has increased.

"I've a speed radar placed there from my discretionary fund in four weeks. In the meantime can we get a sign to remind drivers? A great job was done on Scoil Mhuire," Cllr Fennelly said.

Fine Gael Cllr Barry Walsh seconded the motion.

"A second sign would be a good addition," he agreed.

The district office has agreed to paint more road markings, on the stretch of the R425.
