Driving ban for parking in disabled parking space in Laois

Judge Andrew Cody described it as a 'particularly nasty' offence
A woman who parked in a disabled bay without a permit has been disqualified from driving.
Margaret McInerney of 11 Colliers Court, Portlaoise wasn’t in court where she was accused of parking in a disabled bay on the Dublin Road in Portlaoise on November 27 last.
Det Garda JP O’Brien said he was involved in an armed escort at Portlaoise Hospital when he observed the woman parked in a disabled space outside the hospital at around 9am.
“I cautioned her and I advised her to move,” he told the sitting of Portlaoise District Court.
He said the car was still there at 11.35am. He said the woman had 14 previous convictions, 12 of which were for motoring offences.
Judge Andrew Cody described it as “a particularly nasty” offence.
“Disabled spots are needed for people that are going to hospital that are disabled,” he said.
Judge Cody fined the woman €500 and disqualified her from driving for a year.
