Drunk in Laois village

A man who was ‘highly intoxicated’ in a Laois village has been fined.
Jason Bergin, 48, of Ballyclearly, Castletown was arrested for being drunk in public at Castletown on January 17 last.
Sergeant JJ Kirby told a sitting of Portlaoise District Court that the man was “highly intoxicated” on the date in question. He said the defendant has four previous convictions but none for public order.
Solicitor Josephine Fitzpatrick said her client was attending counselling and she asked the court to do its best in light of his early plea of guilty.
Judge Andrew Cody fined the man €100 and granted legal aid for the case.
