There's been a big response in Killeen to an appeal to help Turkish and Syrian earthquake victims.

Boxes of emergency donations of food and other items poured into the Killeen Hall last weekend after an appeal launched by Aisling Keightley and supported by the Killeen Community Group.

The donations are being transported by Rice Recovery Carlow to the Turkish Embassy in Dublin on Monday.

People in other parts of Laois also responded to the catastrophic disaster in Syria and Turkey.

Portarlington resident Aybike Ozbay McDonough organised an initiative supported by local people in the town and surrounds.

In Portlaoise the Laois Integration Network, which has previously helped Syrian war victims, organised the bake sale and collection of clothes at the Portlaoise Parish Centre last Saturday.

Portlaoise Parish is also playing its part with the Diocese and Trócaire. Appeal envelopes are available to donate to the Parish Centre and Churches.

In Portlaoise, Ozzy at the Turkish Barbers on Railway Street is playing his part. He is accepting items that will go directly to the Turkish embassy to go to Turkey.
