Elderly residents in Portlaoise estate seek footpath repairs

Mature Portlaoise residents living in one of the oldest housing estates in Portlaoise have raised concern about the state of the footpaths.
As a result, St John's Square is to be examined by council officials to see if the footpaths need repairs.
It comes after Labour Cllr Marie Tuohy tabled a motion to the December meeting of Portlaoise Municipal District asking for repair works.
“St John's Square is one of the oldest estates in Portlaoise. It has a mature age group living there, some of whom have mobility issues.
“It's a lovely place. I was told by residents that it is years since the paths were looked at,” Cllr Tuohy said.
Cllr Caroline Dwane Stanley seconded.
“My mother hails from there so i get the rundown from the family on it. Like other older estates the paths haven't been done in years,” she said.
In reply, the engineer Wes Wilkinson agreed to a site meeting with Cllr Tuohy and said he will arrange repairs where necessary.
