€5,000 paid to victim of assault in Laois

A man paid €5,000 in compensation following an assault in Laois. 

Desmond Conroy, 58, of 21 Cullen Wood, Mountmellick admitted assault causing harm at Patrick Street, Mountmellick on May 20, 2022. 

Molly Boggan BL said her client had brought €5,000 for the injured party in the case. She explained that it had been indicated at a previous court hearing that the defendant would get a six month suspended sentence when the money was paid over.

Judge Nicola Andrews asked how long the suspended sentence was supposed to remain in place. When the answer wasn’t forthcoming, she remanded the case back to Portlaoise District Court on March 21 for clarification and finalisation.
