Flood works on Laois road to be paid with climate adaptation cash

Drainage works are needed on a Laois road 'in a bad state' with the cash to be sought from the Government's Climate Adaptation fund.
The road drainage works are at Monaclear in Ballinakill, but they cannot be done until 2023.
Cllr John Joe Fennelly tabled a motion to the April meeting of Portlaoise Municipal District, asking for road drainage works also at Ironmills.
“It is in a bad state. The water goes down into a private estate, destroying entrances,” he said.
Laois County Council plans to do a detailed survey and design and will apply for funding from the Climate Adaptation and Resiliance works for 2023.
There was better news for Ironmills with engineer Wes Wilkinson confirmed that drainage works will be done there in the coming weeks.
