The Armagh native will make an appearance at a Laois school

Jarlath Burns will make his first appearance in Laois since being appointed the President of the GAA when he attends Mountrath Community School.

The schools' TY Future Leaders and last year's cohort will be hosting a series of events on the day. There will be a blitz for the 1st year Ladies footballers as well as a 1st year Hurling blitz, which will be in memory of Adam Kirwan. There will also be past students who are current members of the Laois teams who won their respective League titles recently in attendance on the day.

The name ‘Future Leader Future Stars’ is highlighting the pathway for 1st years to Senior County players, with the TY GAA Future Leaders playing an important role supporting our youth to become confident and active leaders within various roles and responsibilities within the GAA.

Laois Senior football manager Justin McNulty is a former teammate of the GAA President with the Armagh footballers. Burns captainted the Armagh team to Ulster glory in 1999, a team that featured Laois boss McNulty. The pair were also seen in attendance at Armagh's Division 2 clash with Kildare in Carlow.

Burns' first ever trophy presentation in Croke Park as GAA President was for the Laois football team that defeated Leitrim in the Division 4 final in March.

Laois Senior hurling manager Willie Maher was also invited to join Burns' newly created Hurling Development Committee for a three-year period where he'll be joined by multiple All-Ireland winning manager with Kilkenny Brian Cody.

The GAA President has said that he wants to increase participation in hurling while in football, he wants the standard of the spectacle to improve. He has also hinted at the idea of the All-Ireland finals returning to September, a move which would put an end to the current system of the split-season.

Jarlath Burns will attend Mountrath Community School on Monday, April 22.
