Gardaí are warning of a scam at Electric Picnic involving Garda impersonators
Gardaí say they are aware of a number of people who have been contacted by scammers
Gardaí have issued a warning to people who have lost phones that Gardaí will not be seeking their pin numbers.
“Gardaí are aware of a number of phone scams aimed at persons who have lost their mobile phone or had it stolen at Electric Picnic,” they said in an online post.
They said the scam involves Gardaí impersonators who are attempting to get personal details from phone owners.
“Callers, purporting to be Gardaí, are seeking PIN numbers or other identifying information from the owners, or their emergency contact,” they explained.
Please note: Gardaí will NOT be contacting the owners of any such phones seeking PIN numbers or other personal information.
Please be aware of this scam and do not disclose any personal information in these circumstances.”
