Ghost island requested on Portlaoise road

Transport Infrastructure Ireland is being asked to consider the installation of a ghost island at Rossleighan in Portlaoise.
Fine Gael Councilor Willie Aird’s motion asked "that Laois County Council liaise with Transport Infrastructure Ireland once again in relation to the installation of a ghost island in Rossleighan, Portlaoise." The motion was seconded by Fianna Fail’s Catherine Fitzgerald.
A ghost island is design painted on a road to appear like a barrier and keep traffic separated.
In response, Senior Engineer Paul McLoughlin stated that: “A meeting has been held on site with Councillor Aird to examine the issues. Following on from this meeting a request has been made to the newly appointed Transport Infrastructure Ireland(TII) Road Safety Inspection Engineer for a meeting at the location to review concerns highlighted.”
Cllr Fitzgerald said she fully supported the motion on the issue which she said has been ongoing for years.
