Good Luck: Over 1,000 Laois Leaving Cert students get their results this morning

More than 1,100 Laois students are among the 61,700 nationwide to receive their Leaving Certificate results this morning.
Last June a total of 1,108 Leaving Cert and Leaving Cert Applied students sat their exams in Laois. Male students outnumbered females by 585 to 523. In neighbouring Co Offaly, a further 1,051 students sat the exam.
In order to ensure there was no “cliff edge” to pre pandemic marking, this year's results were artificially inflated on average 7.9%, compared to 5.6% last year.
Students across the county and country will be waiting to access their results which will become available online from 10am.
Students and staff in schools like Dunamase College in Portlaoise, who will have their first ever batch of Leaving Cert students, Coláiste Íosagáin in Portarlington, Mountmellick and Mountrath Community Schools are sure to all be waiting anxiously for results this morning.
The State Examinations Commission (SEC) issued a statement congratulating and wishing well, all Leaving Certificate and Leaving Certificate Applied candidates whose results are due from 10am today.
From 10am Leaving Certificate candidates may access their provisional results through the SEC’s Candidate Self Service Portal (CSSP) accessible at www.examinations.ie. Candidates can view their provisional results and will also be able to print a statement of their provisional results. Schools may access results for all of the candidates in the school through the SEC’s Schools Portal. Schools have been asked to make arrangements to support candidates receiving results today.
This year’s batch of Leaving Cert students, those who completed transition year, will be the first to not have sat the traditional Junior Certificate exams due to the pandemic. As a result, the Leaving Certificate examinations are the first formal state examinations that these candidates have sat.
Chairperson of the State Examinations Commission, Mr Pat Burke offered his congratulations to all of the candidates receiving their results.
“I, and my fellow Commissioners, would like to offer our sincere congratulations to candidates receiving their Leaving Certificate results today, which is a notable milestone for these young people,” he said.
“We have again applied a post-marking adjustment to the examination results in order to give effect to the Minister’s commitment that there would be no ‘cliff edge’ return to pre pandemic aggregate grade profiles and the subsequent decision that this should mean that the overall set of results for 2023 should on the aggregate be no lower than 2022.
Through this measure it is intended that the Leaving Certificate class of 2023 will not be disadvantaged when competing with the class of 2022 or previous years for opportunities in further or higher education or employment,” he added.
The SEC transmits the results of all candidates electronically to the Central Applications Office (CAO). This brings about the earliest possible issue of college place offers to candidates. The CAO Round 1 offers will be available to applicants from 2 pm on Wednesday, August 30.
There is a Leaving Certificate Appeals Process for candidates unhappy with their results.
Applications to appeal can only be made through the Candidate Self Service Portal between 10 am Sunday, September 3 and 5pm on Monday, September 4. Appeal Applications are subject to a fee of €40 per subject for Leaving Certificate Established and €15.50 in the case of Leaving Certificate Applied.
The appeal fee will be refunded if an upgrade is awarded. The date of issue of results of the Leaving Certificate appeals is dependent on the number of appeals received and will be announced in due course.
