Green light for over 100 parking spaces at Portlaoise Hospital

Laois County Council grants conditional approval
The HSE has been given planning permission to construct a temporary car park with over 100 spaces in Portlaoise.
Laois County Council conditionally approved the construction of 106 car parking spaces for Portlaoise Hospital on the grounds of St Fintans Healthcare Campus.
The HSE had sought to “construct a temporary car park for Midland Regional Hospital Portlaoise, to accommodate 106 No. car park spaces together with all associated site works, located on Block Road, to the Southwest of Midland Regional Hospital Portlaoise. The proposed site is accessed through an existing access road off Block Road. The proposed car park is within the grounds of St Fintan’s Healthcare Campus, which is listed as a Protected Structure.”

“Due to the expansion of Midland Regional Hospital Portlaoise and the current ongoing construction of the new Respiratory Assessment Unit and Paediatrics Extension granted under Planning Ref. 21/756, there has been a displacement of existing car parking facilities to accommodate the proposed new build. The proposed temporary car parking is to accommodate for these spaces for the duration of these and other ongoing building works at the campus,” architects for the HSE explained in the planning application.
“It is important to note that the subject site, while within the legal boundary of St. Fintans is outside the original Historical Boundary/ Historical Curtilage of St. Fintans,” the architects pointed out.
The council approved the application subject to nine conditions.
