The Laois and Offaly constituency will be split for the next general election

The Green Party has confirmed it intends to run a candidate in Laois in the next general election.

Green Party Senator and Minister, Pippa Hackett, who ran in the last general election in the Laois/Offaly constituency,  has been selected to run for the Green Party in Co Offaly, where she lives.

As Laois and Offaly are to be split into two separate constituencies for the next general election, the party will now need to find a new candidate to run in Laois.

“The Green Party plans to run a candidate in every constituency for the next general election. We will soon open nominations for candidates in Laois and invite members to come forward to stand for the party,” a party spokesperson confirmed.

Minister Hackett, who recently narrowly missed out in a contest for the position of Green Party Leader, was selected to run in Offaly on Monday.

The Green Party has so far selected 16 candidates. They were chosen by local party members in the first round of the process with their names being approved by the party. The Green Party said more candidates are due to be announced in the coming weeks.
