Temperatures are expected to exceed 27 degrees in Laois over the weekend

A Status Yellow warning for high temperatures has been issued to Laois and eleven other counties.

Met Éireann issued the weather warning on Thursday, July 9, for Laois, Carlow, Kildare, Kilkenny, Offaly, Longford, Meath, Westmeath, Wexford, Limerick, Tipperary and Waterford.

The Status Yellow warning will be in effect from 1pm on Friday, July 10 until 7am on Sunday, July 12.

The forecaster has predicted high temperatures in excess of 27 degrees, with overnight temperatures not dropping below a muggy 15 degrees.

Met Éireann has warned that high temperatures may cause heat stress for some as well as uncomfortable sleeping conditions.

They have also cautioned people to be careful when swimming in lakes and beaches as no doubt people will be flocking to waterways during the warm weather.

The heat warning follows Met Éireann’s advisory earlier in the week for the entire country regarding a prolonged spell of warm weather with expected “heatwave conditions.”
