Jason Lynch is a first timer in Laois elections

The Laois General Election race was entered by another independent on the eve of the deadline closing candidates to join the field.

Jason Lynch, a Portlaoise paramedic, is one of 12 candidates in the new three seat constituency.

Little is known about the man who confirmed on social media thaf he would run on a platform of change.

"So after much though and consideration I have decided to run in upcoming General Election as an independent candidate," he declared on Friday, November 15.

He explained his reasons for entering politics.

"I have always had an interest in getting involved in politics, I am running as an independent as I feel this is how I can best represent the people of Laois.

"Those of you that know me, and for those of you that don't, I believe in what is right.

"The people of Ireland and in particular those In Laois, deserve to be represented by a strong voice and I can be that for you.

"We have a whole generation currently locked out of home ownership and if things continue in the same manner generation after generation will also be continued to be locked out of it.

"I work on the front line and I deal with members of the public from all walks of life, I am in hospitals up and down the length of the country and I see the challenges faced in the healthcare sector, from over crowding, under resourced and under funded.

"We can and should be doing better in many different sectors. I can be your voice.

"I will do my best to canvas but I will be relying solely on the power of social media, I will get out to canvas but as mentioned I currently work on the front line so my time is limited.

"So with two weeks to go, let’s get the beginning of change to start now," he said.

Mr Lynch is one of five non-party candidates in the race which concludes on November 29. He is among six Portlaoise based candidates.

Three TDs will be returned from Dail Eireann from Laois.
