There is nothing more glorious than sunshine after a storm. Sunny skies certainly chase the blues away and such was the case, on Saturday October 5 when the Laois Hurlers Golfing Society held their Captain’s Prize in Rathdowney G.C. With a large turnout on show, the event was a resounding success, with players taking full advantage of the sunny conditions. After the scores were totted up, the ever popular, Seamie Cahill, claimed top prize, just edging out Michael Broderick on the “back nine”. The battle for third and fourth was also a cliff-hanger, Sean Kelly pipping Larry Phelan by the minimum margin. With a stunning “Rory McIlroy” style drive up the 14th, Cathal Whelan took home the longest drive with Joe Keenan winning the Nearest the Pin. Joe also captured the “Golfer of the Year” award, retaining the much sought after Ollie Fennell Memorial Trophy. As the curtain closes on another season, the Society would like to say a huge thanks to all the players, young and old, who participated.
