First year students at Portlaoise College seized the opportunity to showcase their recent work during Geography Week in October.
As part of their assigned Week 10 Examinations, students were tasked with compiling research on a topic of their choice, and presented this in the format of a physical model, an informative presentation on their tablets, or any other manner that promoted active learning. The philosophy behind this is to allow students to build their own understanding of a particular topic in a practical manner. This is a stepping stone on the pathway to active, student - led learning which will prepare pupils for upcoming assessments, as students will undertake a Classroom - Based Assessment: Geography in the News in second year. This involves individual or group - based research on a geographical event that has featured in the media.
As seen in the photos, the proud students showcased an impressive array of projects, ranging from physical models, to interactive PowerPoint slides which students can use as a revision tool. It was an invaluable experience for all students.
