Irish Rail staff struggled to contain their frustration as two railway bridges and a crossing were struck by trucks in the space of an hour today.

The national rail carrier took to social media to detail the collisions and vent their frustration.

They stated that bridges were struck in Portlaoise and in Pearse Street in Dublin at 3.20pm today. An hour later at 4.20pm a level crossing at Serpentine, Dublin was struck by a truck.

“Reckless driving by three #dumbtruckers causing delays up to 30 mins, trains have resumed, working to clear delays ASAP,” they said it a Tweet.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson said new bridge warning systems would be in place in Portlaoise by the end of the year.

“The tender process is ongoing. We expect that the system will be installed and operational by the end of the year,” the spokesperson said when asked how the project was progressing.
