Stradbally health check identifies need for community facility and other issues locals face

The absence of a community centre in Stradbally has come under renewed focus in a new analysis of the town's needs and future direction.

The need for some type of hub is highlighted by Stradbally Tidy Towns, in collaboration with Southeast Technological University (SETU), in the Stradbally Town Centre Health Check.

The Tidy Towns say this comprehensive study, which was commissioned in October 2023, offers an in-depth analysis focusing on key aspects such as consumer behaviour, business attitudes, land use, and the need for community development.

It is claimed that the findings will guide future planning to enhance residents' quality of life and promote sustainable development in the area.

Those behind the initiative say the key issues identified in the report include the provision of a multi-purpose community centre and the need for improved infrastructure.

The study, which has already been outlined to Laois County Council, emphasizes the importance of addressing the town’s transport links, pedestrian safety, and sustainable development. It also expresses a need for new enterprises such as restaurants and community spaces, which could stimulate the local economy and enhance Stradbally’s appeal to residents and visitors.

Spokesperson for Stradbally Town Health Check launch Nuala Monaghan stressed that this publication is a “critical tool” for shaping the future of Stradbally and providing a “roadmap” for sustainable growth that can be used to apply for future funding while preserving the town’s unique heritage and culture. Those behind the report also say that Stradbally’s local councilors will form the basis for future town planning and revitalization projects. They also say the community will be encouraged to engage with the findings and contribute to the next steps in the town’s development journey.

The Stradbally Town Centre Health Check publication launch takes place on Tuesday, October 22 at 7pm, in Stradbally Library.

The programme involved a 15 step process where surveys are conducted throughout the town to establish land use and vacancy rates, consumer footfall, business and consumer data as well as vehicle counts and parking, accessibility and over all town centre 'health'.
