Laois County Council is hiring a new arts officer for the county, as the existing officer prepares to retire
Laois Arts officer Muireann Ní Chonaill is retiring this autumn after serving the county’s arts sector for the past 35 years.
During that time she assisted in establishing Laois arts festivals and summer programmes, the Stradbally Arthouse, Laois School of Music and Dunamaise Arts Centre, while supporting artists and bringing art into communities.
“It was a privilege to have served the people of Co Laois for the last 35 years. The support received from the members, management and staff made it all the easier." Ms Ní Chonaill told Laois Life magazine.
Applications have already opened for the new arts officer.
The salary will range from €61,217 to €79,753, with flexible hours, a family friendly working practice and training provided.
However the role requires plenty of experience and training, as Laois County Council outlines.
“Laois Arts Office is charged with developing and delivering high quality, imaginative Arts, with and for the people and visitors of Laois.
“In doing so the Arts Office advocates for and clearly communicates the significant role that the arts play in enriching the wellbeing of society, our citizens and in enhancing the public realm.
“Laois Arts Office continues to work closely with key local, regional and national partners in creative, public, private, community and voluntary sectors, collaborating on shared agendas.
“Candidates must must hold an ordinary degree (level 7 or higher) in an Arts or Cultural discipline, and also have at least five years’ satisfactory relevant arts development and administration experience at management level in the area of team leadership, programme development and budget management.
“They must also have satisfactory knowledge of a public service organisation.”
“The ideal candidate shall have a good knowledge of current arts practice and the organisation of the arts in Ireland especially as it applies to the professional development of artists, arts organisations and festivals.”
