Laois band to record track after song contest win

Portarlington's Alright Then will play at the Night and Day Festival in June
Laois band Alright Then have been announced as the winners of the Night and Day song contest. The Portarlington trio are made up of Conor McLoughlin, Colm Geraghty and Cillian Deegan.
They were chosen as the overall winners of the competition and will record their winning track “If You Are To Lose”.
The Laois band's sound has a folk core, often engaging with moments of rock, indie and surf. By learning lessons from the likes of Kevin Morby, Big Thief and Courtney Barnett, they produce a warm sound. Lyrically Alright Then dwell on the moments in time where they have not been so present. The conversations where things weren’t said, and moments when actions should have been different, Conor writes to accept points of life where typically he would ruminate negatively.
The lads have the choice of recording their winning song at either of Night and Day's sponsoring studios; Soundcaster Studios and Paddy Jordan Recording and will perform at the Night and Day Festival which will take place from June 27 to 29 at Lough Key Forest Park in County Roscommon.
The festival is a strictly over-20s event but also caters to families with lots of family-focused activities available at the cultural site.
Night and Day Creative Director Declan Hurley said: "We had a record number of entries in both competitions this year and as has frequently happened before, I expect the winners' performances to be amongst the festival highlights at this year's festival."
