Laois cattle grid solution of no use to address swimming pool worth of flooding

Family suffering 'awful stress' over flood flear
A suggested cattle grid will is not enough to keep water out of the property of a Laois household who are in fear of flooding due to water flowing off the public road that it's claimed would fill a swimming pool.
So claimed Cllr Conor Bergin, Fine Gael, when called on Laois County Council to address the flooding/drainage issues at the Brennan residence, Ballyquaid as “a matter of priority’’.
He said he had met with people in the area and was told that water was flooding yards and sheds from the public road.
“Water is coming down the road and straight into people’s yards. There is nowhere else for it to go. They were told to put in a cattle grid but the amount of water going through would fill up a swimming pool. There is also a concern that the water will get into the well,” he said.
He called for extensive drainage works to divert it away from people’s yards as he said it is now impacting the well-being of the residents.
“It is causing these people awful distress and anxiety,” he said.
Edmond Kenny, Senior Executive Engineer, responded in writing. "The drainage issue will be inspected and measures taken as required," he said.
The issue was raised at the Borris-in-Ossory Moutmellick Municipal District meeting.
