The allocation of  €276,912  to Laois projects under the Community Support Fund was welcomed by local Government Ministers.

Almost €277,000 in funding was allocated for 132 local projects across Laois under the Community Support Fund 2022.

The Community Support Fund is a once off fund provided by the Department of Rural and Community Development and administered by Local Community Development Committees, with support from the Local Authority, in each area.

“I welcome the announcement of this funding today by Government for Laois groups and organisations. These grants will make a big difference to all of these community groups in Laois,” said Minister of State Sean Fleming.

“This fund will support Laois community groups, particularly in disadvantaged areas, with their energy bills, improvements to their facilities, purchasing of sports equipment and much more.

This will allow local organisations in Laois to continue the great work they do in their communities, providing sports and recreation to young and old,” he said.

The 2022 Community Support Fund was launched in November 2022 with funding of €10 million available nationwide.

“Well done to all of those community groups that have received funding today and I would like to thank all these groups in Laois for their great work at grassroots level,” said Minister Fleming.

Green Party Minister Pippa Hackett also welcomed the allocation and congratulated the successful applicants.

“Announced as once off funding in November of last year the Community Support Fund was opened to Laois voluntary organisations to apply from late December. I worked hard to ensure that all relevant groups in the county were aware of the fund and I am delighted to see that 132 applications have been successfully awarded amounts from €300 to €10,000.

All of these organisations make a difference for those they serve, from the Golden Years Club in Mountrath (€1,000) and the Happy Hearts Club, Portarlington (€1,000) to Emo GAA (€9,500),” said Minister Hackett.

“It is vital that government helps them to keep the lights on and the show on the road and I believe that this fund, totalling a boost of €276,912 across Laois will help in small but significant ways across nearly every town and village in the county. My thanks to the groups for all their voluntary effort and to Laois Local Community Development Committee for the administration of this scheme,” she said.
