She says Stradbally's bins are filled to capacity by midday on Thursday at the start of the festival

A councillor called for additional bins to be placed in Stradbally during the Electric Picnic music and arts festival.

Fine Gael Cllr Vivienne Phelan welcomed the additional business that the festival brought to Stradbally but she urged the council to be prepared for the event which runs from Thursday to Sunday.

She said by “midday on Thursday the public bins were absolutely filled to capacity” in Stradbally.

“They are just not suitable for that volume of people,” said Cllr Phelan.

She asked that the council put more bins in place during the festival weekend from next year.

“We know the volume of people that are going to be in the town,” she pointed out.

Cllr Phelan said people were trying to be clean and tidy but there was nowhere for them to put their rubbish during the festival.

She raised the issue at the September meeting of Portarlington Graiguecullen Municipal District.
