Laois councillors to pool their money for new streetlights

Laois councillors are pooling some of their €23,000 budgets to install new streetlights.
The six councillors representing the Portarlington Graiguecullen Municipal District, are putting €6,000 each into the pot, to offer Laois County Council €36,000 for new public lights in 2023.
They are putting another total of €5,000 towards traffic calming in the region.
A remaining €97,000 will be divided between the councillors to spend on community projects of their own choosing this year.
All of the 19 Laois County Councillors are given a budget of €23,000 each by Laois County Council to spend as they see fit.
The sum is included in an annual roads budget of over €5million for the Portarlington Graiguecullen Municipal District, approved by councillors at the March meeting.
