Laois County Council considering more serviced sites for self builders

Details of some sites were revealed at the council's monthly management report
Laois County Council confirmed it is actively considering the development of serviced sites over the coming years at a number of locations in the county.
Eligibility will be determined by criteria as set out under the Croí Conaithe (Towns) Fund - Ready to Build Scheme (Serviced Sites for New Homes) Scheme. Under the scheme, local authorities are supported to make serviced sites in towns and villages available to potential individual purchasers.
These sites will be available at a discount on the market value of the site for the building of a property for occupation as the principal private residence of the purchaser. The level of discount to the individual will depend on the level of servicing cost incurred by the local authority before the sale of the site with discounts up to a maximum of €30,000. The amount of such discount will be reflected in the sale price of the site to the purchaser.
The council listed a number of locations that are currently under consideration for serviced sites and/or have advertised sites for sale. The sites are a minimum of 0.25 acres in size.
In total the council has so far identified or delivered 23 of these sites. They are located at Ballacolla Road, Durrow where offers were made on the four sites and have been accepted.
Another four sites at Gleann na Glaise, Ballyroan have also gone to new owners. Meanwhile, progress is continuing on two sites at Doonane, four sites at Derry Road in Durrow and nine sites in Castletown.
