The issue was raised at a recent council meeting

A Laois housing estate is unsafe due to speeding vehicles, a council meeting was told.

Independent Cllr Ben Brennan asked in a motion “that Laois County Council install two speed ramps in Brotherton Housing Estate in Graiguecullen as the estate is not safe due to speeding vehicles.”

Cllr Brennan said the ramps were needed in the interest of safety.

“They are travelling at a very fast pace,” he said.

Fianna Fail Cllr Padraig Fleming seconded the motion and said it was an issue in every estate in the county.

He said the only way to stop speeding in estates was by putting up speed ramps.

In response to the motion, Senior Executive Engineer, Philip McVeigh said “Laois County Council will arrange to meet with the elected member at this location to assess the works required.”

The issue was discussed at the latest meeting of Portarlington Graiguecullen Municipal District.
