Laois festival told to increase its insurance cover

The Folly Festival is taking place in Cullohill this weekend
The Folly Festival was granted an occasional licence on condition it increased its insurance cover.
A solicitor acting on behalf of the festival organisers noted the judge had granted an occasional licence but requested increased insurance cover from €2.4 million up to €10 million.
At a sitting of Portlaoise District Court the solicitor said the organisers had contacted their insurance company who advised that “the maximum sum they are able to put in place is €8 million.” He said it was a community based festival and he asked Judge Andrew Cody to consider accepting the increase.
Judge Cody said the size of the festival wasn’t the key consideration as one single accident could exceed €2.5 million. However, he said €8 million in insurance cover would be sufficient and he amended the conditions to reflect the new level of cover.
The Folly Festival is going ahead in Cullohill this Friday and Saturday, July 4 and 5.
