Laois Gardaí arrest motorist who turned from checkpoint

Laois Gardaí say a drug driver attempted to avoid a checkpoint by driving down a dead end.

“Laois Roads Policing Unit were carrying out a MIT checkpoint on the Dublin Road, Portlaoise when a VW Polo suddenly turned away in an apparent attempt to ghost us,” they stated.

“The only problem? They turned into a cul de sac. Not exactly a great escape route.”

Gardai said “the driver was stopped, tested positive for cocaine, and was arrested at the scene. A blood sample was taken and court proceedings are now underway.”

“Moral of the story? If you’re driving under the influence, there’s no right road — but there are plenty of wrong turns. This one just happened to be a dead end,” gardai said.
