Gardaí discovered a number of offences including one vehicle fitted with false registration plates
A multiagency checkpoint resulted in Laois gardai seizing two vehicles and uncovering a range of offences.
Gardai found one driver using false registration plates and another who failed a roadside drug test was found to be using agricultural diesel.
Laois Gardaí were joined by Customs, the Road Safety Authority, Laois County Council and Social Welfare representatives at the checkpoint on Thursday.
“Laois Roads Policing Unit conducted multi-agency checkpoints yesterday in Laois in conjunction with the RSA, Customs, Social Welfare, and Laois County Council,” gardai stated.
They said “dozens of HGVs were inspected. Several vehicles had badly worn tyres with a tread depth of less than 1.6mm. One van had no road tax for over two years and was seized.”
“A vehicle was stopped fitted with false registration plates displayed and no road tax. Another driver was arrested after failing the roadside drug test for cocaine and cannabis. Their vehicle was also found to contain agricultural diesel. A number of prosecutions have commenced,” gardaí said.
