It means Laois have lost two games on the spin

The Laois Ladies have lost their second game on the spin in Division 2 of the league after Cavan came out on top by three points in Knockbride GAA this afternoon.

Laois went in search of a goal late on but couldn’t find the back of the net to level the game.

Cavan 0-9

Laois 0-6

Laois were tasked with kicking into a stiff breeze in the first-half with Mo Nerney missing two frees early on as they struggled to get to grips with the conditions. It was the home side who got the game’s first score as Niamh McCorry split the posts from a placed ball. Cavan extended their lead soon after as Sinead Levingstone’s wind-assisted effort bounced off the top of the crossbar and dropped on top of the net.

Laois opened their account after 13 minutes as Nerney found her range from a free on her third attempt. Deirbhle McCaffery replied instantly for Cavan before Nerney pointed her second free. A super point from Zara Fay would be the half’s final score. Laois almost snuck in a goal at the end of the half with Orla Hennessy’s effort being saved by Evelyn Baugh in the Cavan goal. Cavan held a 0-4 to 0-2 advantage at the break.

Laois were dealt a major blow five minutes into the half as Katie Donoghue was shown a yellow card for a head-high tackle. Cavan pointed the resulting free as McCaffrey raised a white flag. Laois got the next two scores courtesy of Andrea Moran and Nerney to leave one between the sides.

Cavan pushed on again and fired over three scores without reply. Niamh McCorry pointed twice while Levingstone scored a lovely point off her left-foot. Nerney pointed two more points while McCorry replied for Cavan to leave three between the sides in added time. There was eight minutes added on but Laois couldn’t find that all important goal.
