Pat Burbage raised the funds for the Portarlington Meals on Wheels committee

A Laois charity has received a "staggering" ammount of money thanks to one member of the community who raised the funds on his birthday.

Sharing a post on Facebook, Ann Bourke Dunne posted to a public group Portarlington (Ireland) News to say: "On behalf of the Portarlington Meals on Wheels committee, I would like to thank Pat Burbage, all the climbers and all who donated to the Croagh Patrick climb.

"Pat has organised this climb every year on his birthday, July 8. He once again picked the Port Meals on Wheels to donate to.

A staggering €6,000 was raised. A huge amount of money for which we are forever grateful."

The primary aim of Meals on Wheels is to develop a sense of security amongst those in the community that may feel isolated while recovering from a stay in hospital and facilitates a smooth and comfortable transition to return home.
