Laois Masters book place in All-Ireland decider

Down now await Laois in the Masters Spirit Cup final
Laois Masters have booked their place in the All-Ireland Masters Spirit Cup final after edging out Mayo by a single point in a thrilling semi-final at St Brigid’s, Kiltoom, Co Roscommon, on Saturday, August 22.
Laois prevailed on a scoreline of 2-11 to 1-13 to set up a final meeting with Down with the fixture set to form part of a double-header. Full details of the venue and throw-in time are still to be confirmed.
The Laois side had already negotiated a demanding group campaign to reach the last four, playing six games and recording three wins, a draw and two defeats. Their losses came against Meath and Waterford, while they drew with Cork and recorded victories over Kildare, Westmeath and Clare to secure their place in the semi-finals.
Lee Murphy and Arnie Mahon provided the crucial goals, while Murphy also contributed two points to finish with a personal tally of 1-2. Emo’s Darren Strong was another key contributor on the scoreboard, kicking three points, while Paul Lawlor and Bobby Doyle each added two. Mahon and James Doogue also raised white flags as Laois held off a strong Mayo challenge to claim a one-point victory.
The result means the Laois Masters now have an All-Ireland title within touching distance, with Down standing between them and silverware on September 19.
