Laois planners approve new Mexican restaurant

Laois Shopping Centre had sought permission to join two shopping units together
A spicy new restaurant business is coming to Laois, filling up tummies and two vacant shopping units.
Laois Shopping Centre in Portlaoise, trading at Lindat, has received conditional planning approval from Laois County Council to convert two shop units into one restaurant.
The units face onto its James Fintan Lalor Avenue façade, and will be occupied by a Mexican food bar.
Namo Ireland which already has restaurants in Clonmel, Carlow and Kilkenny, plans to open a burrito bar in the centre. The restaurants sell burritos, nachos and quesadillas.
The permission was granted in December 2024, with no works yet seen to have begun on the site.
It sought to "carry out development which will consist of works to amalgamate the two existing ground floor retail units with existing access and shopfronts to the North façade, no.s 19 & 20, to create one larger unit and a change of use from Retail to Restaurant for this new unit with illuminated signage to the existing shopfront facias and external plant fixed to the single storey roof above to serve the proposed Restaurant (amalgamated units 19 & 20)".
