A Laois football referee was front and centre on Wednesday evening as a new three-part series 'Gaelic in the Joy' began on RTÉ Oné.

Former Dublin GAA and eight-time All-Ireland winner Philly McMahon along with comedian Rory O'Connor 'Rory's Stories' co-host the series with the two lads taking ten prisoners from Mountjoy Prison's Progression Unit and forming a football team with the end goal of playing a game under the lights of Croke Park against prison officers from Mountjoy.

The first episode featured a practice match where Seamus Mulhare from The Heath was the man in the middle. The 10 prisoners went up against a squad of retired Dublin GAA players with over 50 All-Ireland's between them. Michael Darragh McAuley and Alan Brogan featured for the Dublin side.

Gaelic in the Joy continues on Wednesday evening on RTÉ Oné from 9.35pm.
