1,000 homes built around county

Laois TD and Minister Sean Fleming says he is pleased that Laois is leading the way in house-building, based on the latest figures released by the Central Statistics Office for 2023.

The Fianna Fáil representative said that a new home is being built for every 111 people in the county. He said this means that Laois is building more houses per capita than every other county in Ireland, except for south Dublin and north Wicklow.

"This follows recent figures which show that 1,624 new homes have been built in Co Laois, since Fianna Fáil returned to Government in 2020.

"Across Laois, there are new private and social housing developments that have been built and there are many more currently under construction. 1,000 new private homes have been built in Laois since 2020," he said.

The TD said 272 social homes were built by Laois County Council and approved housing bodies in 2023. He said a further 247 social homes are under construction across the County at the moment. He added that 339 social houses are currently at planning and design stage. More below picture.placeholder image

"It is a priority for me and Fianna Fáil in Government to continue the building of homes for families in Laois. Our Housing for All plan is producing an increase in home-building across the country.

"There are many different schemes to help people to own their own home or to refurbish vacant and derelict properties. I encourage everyone who wants to own their own home to avail of these Government schemes," concluded the Minister of State.

The Government estimates that 33,000 new homes need to be provided each year from 2021 to 2030 in Ireland.
