Plean made to help residents in Ballyfin area

A plea has been made to Laois County Council to fix a road in the Ballyfin area which it's claimed has not benefited from roadworks for nearly 30 years.

Cllr Seamus McDonald, Fianna Fáil, tabled a motion at a recent meeting calling on the local authority to carry out urgent road repairs at Old Deerpark, Ballyfin.

He claimed the road hasn’t been worked on since the 1980s.

“The last roadworks were carried out in 1987 and that’s a long time ago…I think it is very unfair to people living on such a road. The least you can have is a good road,” he said.

Cllr Paddy Bracken said he fully supported the appeal.

James Dowling, a Senior Executive Engineer in the council’s Roads section, replied in writing.

“Laois County Council road maintenance crew will carry out repairs as required,” he said.

The issue was raised at a meeting of the Borris-in-Ossory Mountmellick Municipal District.
